TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES Sept 11 (Thursday), Coaches Brainstorming Session - the day after game is announced 4-6:00 pm Mashburn Elementary Come join us as we review the game rules, offer each other helpful hints, and brainstorm as a group about how to approach the challenge and how to work with the young students. We'll have lots of experienced folks there to help you, so stop by if you can. Note: we realize some folks don't get out of class until 4:30. Come as soon as you can - we'll get you caught up!
Sat Sept 13th - Wheeler Circuit Runners Robotics 4th Annual Kickoff Workshop Sat. Sept. 13 8-12:30 This is a chance for tudents and coaches to gain insight in the FLL world. All articipants will participate in instruction on the building, rogramming, presentation, and missions strategy associated to this years FLL game Climate Connection.

RCX & ROBOLAB Programming class This will be an open forum Q&A session for those using ROBOLAB 2.5.4 with the RCX Brick.
Building: Robot Design: An overview: This will be a Q&A session and technique demonstration for robot design. This session is an overview that will help answer the question "Where do we start?" and will contain discussion of specific design ideas that can be incorporated into a competition robot. Physical examples will be displayed and their design concepts explained. New teams will find this discussion extremely helpful and numerous resources will be provided as a handout.
Reliable Robot Design: Learn to build your robot for predictable results in FLL. Do you want your robot to be sturdy, reliable and well designed? Some topics we will cover include: . Building a sturdy robot . Adding bumpers and wall huggers . Good positioning of sensors . Build your robot for predictability We will also talk about "best practices" for teams in getting ready for competitions.
Chassis Design: This discussion will cover the area of Chassis Design. Robot chassis design can be a critical component of a competition robot and numerous tips and examples will be provided and discussed. The chassis is the central component of a competition robot and a well-designed chassis will allow for the use of many specialized attachments.
FLL Project & Judging: Topics that will be covered in the Project portion of this session . Picking a topic . Researching . Types of sources . "Field trips" related to the topic . Contacting experts . Compiling information . Creating sample (if applicable) . Developing your project presentation . Presenting your presentation and research to other audiences to inform them (School, church, scouts) . Logistics and time limits of the presentation before judges . Sample projects and links to more sample projects . Copies of information and rubrics about projects from Coaches' Handbook . Question period
FLL Missions: Coverage and Q&A for the "Climate Connections" rules, including strategy discussion. Competition tables will be setup for teams to test and experiment if time permits. Bring your own kits and laptop (and power chargers).
Sun Oct 26, 2008 CEISMIC, GA Tech - School of Earth & Atmosperic Science Show and tell on the campus to share information and ethods for collecting climate data. More details will be posted on he georgiafll.org website when the details are finalized. Space will be limited and restricted to only a couple people per team to allow a arger percentage of teams to gain the information.

Sat Nov 15th, Women in Engineering - Middle School Outreach Dear Teacher,
We would like to inform you of a wonderful opportunity for your students. Georgia Tech's student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers will be hosting our annual Middle School Outreach program on *November 15** th* this year. We need your help recruiting students! We are looking for girls from 6th, 7th, or 8th grade who may be interested in engineering. Please pass on the attached application form to any female students who have one or more of these qualities:
- Have an interest in math or science
- Have an interest in engineering
- Like hands-on activities
- Are strong math or science students
- Work well in groups
- May be interested in attending Georgia Tech
Applications are due on October 31st. Space is limited, so encourage your students to apply as soon as possible! We are going to have a lot of fun, and hopefully help get some students excited about engineering. Enclosed you will find a letter to prospective students and the required registration form. Please feel free to duplicate this form for distribution to all interested students. When they register, the girls should be sure to include their name, grade, school, city, special dietary needs, and email address. We will use this email address to contact them to confirm registration and provide further details about the event.
